Welcome to Saanane, a Park that is located on an island in the Lake Victoria covering an area of 2.18 Km2. It’s the only National Park within the city limits.The island was named after Mzee Saanane Chawandi, a local farmer and fisherman. It is also the smallest NAtional PArk in Tanzania covering a lot of beauty with such a short distance from the city. You cmay call it City Break Park. Saanane National park was established in 2013.
Park Attractions and Activities:
The Island is a home to free roaming mammals such as zebra, impala, rock hyrax, velvet monkey and wild cat. It’s the only place in Tanzania where you might encounter the De-brazza’s monkey. The fishing tour can also be arranged while visiting the park The aquatic part of the Park inhabits a variety of fisheries life, including Tilapia and Nile Perch
Sun-Downing and Sun-Rising
Four sites exist for sun rise/set watching: two for sun-rising and the remaining for sun-downing. This phenomenon creates fascinating object silhouettes across water to look at.
Camping: Park visitors may camp inside the park but also as well obtain hotels and lodges from Mwanza city or nearby places.
Transport:
The Park can be reached by rail, ship, air or by road followed by a boat trip to Saanane. It take only few minutes from the shore of mwanza city
By Road and boat: One can drive to Mwanza from Dar-es-salaam, Kigoma, Kilimanjaro, Arusha, Tabora or by ferry from Uganda, Kenya, Bukoba and nearby islands. It takes short boat ride about 10m from Mwanza to Saanane
By Air: A flight from dar-es-salaam or Kilimanjaro International Airport to Mwanza.
