Mafia Island is part of Tanzania’s Mafia Archipelago, in the Indian Ocean. Large swaths of the island’s southern coastline and surrounding waters are protected by the Mafia Island Marine Park. Within the park are many coral reefs, home to wildlife such as whale sharks and sea turtles. In the south, beaches include secluded Ras Kisimani, just across from Bwejuu Island. Popular Utende Beach edges onto Chole. It covers an area of 435 km2

​Mafia is renowned as an excellent world-class diving destination with some of the richest reefs in the world, The park covers the Southern part of Mafia Island and includes the inhabited islands of Chole, Juani Jibondo and Bwejuu and several uninhabited islets and the associated waters.

By Boat:  You can reach  Mafia  from the mainland by boat from different places including Nyamisati  Dar and Zanzibar,

By Air: There are chartered flights from many areas   of the mainland including Dar Airport  and Zanzibar including scheduled flights to the Island.
