Welcome to Rumanyika-Karagwe National Park

Originally a Game Reserve of 800 sq. km Rumanyika-Karagwe was gazetted as a National Park in July 2019, it’s area had shrunk to 247 sq. km due to human encroachment, but it is still a beautiful area with great potential for photographic tourism.The park hosts a significant number and diversity of wildlife that can be enjoyed.

The essential core of the area is quite a deep valley with a slow winding river at its base which breaks up into lakes and swamps. The lower slopes of the valley are heavily vegetated by forest and thick bush. The higher slopes of the valley have Acacia tall grass woodlands which are spacious and attractive and are clearly kept relatively open by seasonal fires.

Transport

By Air: The park can be accessed from Bukoba and Chato airports to airstrips located at Ihanda in   Karagwe district or Kagaga airstrip at Ibanda-Kyerwa National Park.

By Road:  By road: The  park  can be accessed  from Kaisho   where there are buses

(18.4 km)  also from Kyerwa, (26.6km or Kaitambuzi (27.1km) ..

.from Bukoba Town to Murongo is 220 km and from Chato Town to Murongo is 327 km.

Road access is possible from Uganda and Rwanda through the kikagati border to Murongo. Or from Rwanda through the Rusumo border via Karagwe to Murongo

Attractions and wildlife and other activities

The park has endowed with various places of interest where tourists can visit, normally for its intrinsic or exhibited natural or cultural value, historical importance, natural or built beauty, offering leisure, adventure and delighted.One of the special attractions to Rumanyika-Karagwe National Park is that visitors are able to see giraffe, buffalo, impala, waterbuck, leopard, zebra, bushbuck and Baboons

The park is capped  with very good landscape  with  different vegetation which   displays  the beauty of nature beyond imagination.

Birds watching

It is difficult to visit this beautiful park and not be impressed by the number and variety of birds you see. The great cross-section of vegetation types and altitude help to contribute towards existence of  many type of birds

When visiting Rumanyika National Park, a visitor can enjoy various activities in the park such as day and night game drive, Camping, bush meal, bird watching and nice landScapes

Climate

Temperature ranges between 13C to 38C depending on the area elevation.The dry season is from July to October and the remainder of the year there can be rain with some of it very heavy with up to 1,300 mm in the west parts of the Park.
